Somerset is a county full of contrasts. On one side it is all coast, with great beaches that are perfect for family holidays and all sorts of excellent beach romps. This coastal side has areas such as Burnham-on-Sea which have been popular with holiday makers for decades. Paddling, building sand castles, and taking donkey rides along the beach are all things that people enjoy doing in Somerset, but, because of the previously mentioned fact that Somerset is a county of contrast, there are plenty of other things to do in Somerset as well.
There is moor land in Somerset as well the coast, and on the moor land hiking, cycling or riding horses are all popular activities. Rambling across the wide open areas is very rewarding, but even the moor land is full of contrasts, as the Exmoor area near Devon will provide thickly forested hills that roll up and down and into valleys that stretch out towards the sea. These areas are also great to walk in, but doing so provides totally different views to walking in other areas of Somerset.
Another face of Somerset are the cities within it. Bristol is easily accessed from Somerset, but has its own governing body. It’s a great place to go for a shopping trip. The cities of Wells and Bath offer even more in terms of great sights, and walking around these cities to view the architecture, especially in Bath, is time very well spent.
So, whatever you want to go to Somerset to do, you should be able to. Accommodation in Somerset is as diverse as the county itself, and visitors can stay anywhere, including holiday parks to hotels.
