When people think about going on holiday in the UK there are a few places that instantly enter their minds. The Lake District or Peak District are two, each offering isolation, dramatic landscapes and plenty of outdoor activities to take part in. Scotland or Wales are other possibilities, as people are attracted by their rugged landscapes and mountainous terrain. The final one is the South West of England though, and with its beautiful moor land, sandy beaches, rolling waves, climbing hills, diving valleys, and wildlife-filled woodland, it’s little wonder that millions of holiday makers visit the region year after year.

Because of this, the area is well-stocked with attractions and accommodation, everything from country houses to holiday parks have a place here, and there’ll always be lots to do no matter where you are.

Inland, there are two of the best moors in the country, Exmoor and Dartmoor, and each is covered with incredible views, scenery and landscapes. Every turn reveals something new and exciting, and stopping for lunch is so much better when you can eat it in a picturesque village nestled in a valley, or atop a ledge of granite that juts out over a gently bubbling river.

The coast is just as incredible, with every kind of beach you could imagine found somewhere along it. Whether you’re interested in surfing, swimming, building sandcastles or just relaxing in the sun, the South West has a beach for you.

Due to the generally low costs compared to other parts of the UK, the South West is also a perfect place to visit if you’re looking for a cheap family holiday, which is a draw for many people who want to keep their costs down. It’s important to remember though that low-cost doesn’t equal low-fun.
