The Isle of Wight has attracted tourists for centuries, including figures such as Tennyson and Queen Victoria. Nowadays, it’s even more popular, and why wouldn’t it be? The island has incredible landscapes (much of it is classed as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) as well as, given its position off the southern coast, a much warmer climate than the rest of the UK. It’s a great destination for summer holidays.
Getting to the Isle of Wight is part of the fun itself. You have to decide whether to travel by ferry, hovercraft or catamaran before you’ve even checked in to your Isle of Wight hotel, and once you’re there how you make your way around the island is up to you as well. There are excellent bus services between all the major towns that pass through most of the villages, and these will be perfectly fine for travelling to and from beaches or whichever attraction takes your fancy.
And what attractions they are! The Isle of Wight has some fantastic sights, and its fascinating geography has produced some magnificent natural wonders. A trip to the Needles on the west side of the island will leave you filled with a sense of wonder at how the sea can carve such amazing structures, and viewing one of the bizarre land slips that occur on the island, where the surface soil literally slides downhill on top of a bed of clay, will give you a healthy respect for the power of earth.
So, there’s plenty to do on the island, a lot of things to see too. Make the most of this gorgeous addition to the UK’s coast on an Isle of Wight holiday.
